EDITORIAL BY THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

The Coordination Inter-Eglise pour l'Alphabétisation et la Traduction en Langues Gabonaises (CIEATLG), is a non-profit association founded in March 2016 by the will of the congregations: Eglise de l'Alliance Chrétienne et Missionnaire du Gabon (EACMG), Assemblées de Dieu du Gabon (ADG) and the Fédération des Eglises Adventiste du 7ème Jour du Gabon (EA7).

It is an arm of the churches for the implementation of translation and literacy programs and their use by linguistic communities.

CIEATLG was legally born on December 27, 2018 by a Constitutive General Assembly.

The CIEATLG is recognized by the Ministry of the Interior under the final Receipt N° 000238/MI/SG/BMB of December 17, 2020.

CIEATLG's vision: THE TRANSFORMATION OF GABON'S COMMUNITIES THROUGH THE WORD OF GOD IN THEIR OWN MATERIAL LANGUAGES.

In order to achieve this vision, the following actions must be carried out:

  • Enable each community to better understand the Word of God in its own language.
  • Make the Word of God accessible to each ethnic group in its own language: The Word of God as the foundation of life and action;
  • Promote the Bible, its translation and distribution in Gabonese languages;
  • Promote the translation of Christian literature;
  • Promote literacy, linguistic research and the use of texts produced in local languages;
  • Encourage each community to promote its language, with a view to its spiritual, social and economic development.

  • Train translators, translation consultants, linguists and literacy teachers in the communities to ensure the continuity and sustainability of the work.
    In addition to the churches, which are the primary partners in fulfilling its mission, CIEATLG also seeks the support of external partners in various projects to mobilize and translate the Bible into Gabonese languages.

  • Promote the production, distribution and use of translated documents.

The CIEATLG Office currently oversees four projects with internal and external partners.

CIEATLG is currently overseeing three projects:

1) The "Ogooué 2" and "Nyangu 2" projects (continuation of the KIWOYETI project) coordinated respectively by pastors Colette KANGA and Hippolyte LUBILANJI.

The languages involved are : Kota, Isangu, Wumbu, Obamaba, Eshira (Gisir), Téké, Ipunu
The objectives are:

  • Oral production of the entire Gospel of Luke in audio format;
  • Production of the film Jesus of Nazareth.
  • Translation of other books

2) The "SAMBA 2" project, whose Director/Coordinator is Mrs. INOUGUNGANY Prescillia (ADG), involves the oral translation (OBT) of 17 languages:

* Ogooué zone: Ndoumou-Mbangouin-Akélé-Awandji-Adouma-Pové/Pouvi-Okandé-Makina - Samayi (9 languages)

* Ngounié-Nyanga zone: Vili-Apindji-Vungu-Bavarama-Ngowé-Ilumbu-Séki-Mbenga (8 languages)

3) The MAST Project, directed by Pasteur Julien BOULENDE (EACMG).

The MAST project is a "Mobilization Assistance and Support for Translation" project.

This program aims to speed up the translation of the New Testament by equipping national biblical translators to rapidly provide the Word of God in mother tongues, mainly in oral versions.

The MAST project's oral translation of the New Testament concerns eleven of Gabon's languages. These are :

IPUNU, ISANGU, YINDZEBI, MAHONGWE, POUVI, NDASSA, KWELE, WANDJI, KANINGUI, and OBAMBA.

   To achieve its vision, CIEATLG is strongly involved in projects to transmit its vision, mobilize and sensitize linguistic communities and set up language committees, with the support of external partners and facilitators with proven expertise in mobilization and sensitization.
